when i go to start a new snip it just hangs on the main window. the screen goes white (unresponsive) until i kill the window.
* visual studio 2010 ultimate
* windows 7 64 bit

I don't use the default snippet path that VS uses, I have mine on a different drive altogether. Each time I go to save a snippet, the Save dialog opens to the VS default directory, meaning that I have to manually chanbge it every time.

It would be good to have an option added to be able to set a different directory (or continue to use the VS default). I can't believe this hasn't been requested before. I searched for an existing request, but couldn't find one.
Comments: That is a very good suggestion. I will fix this in a future release.

There are a number of spelling/grammatical mistakes in the Options page.

Editor:
* "DefaultLanguage" --> "Default Language" (occurs in option setting & description)
* "VisualBasic" --> "Visual Basic"

Index:
* "Where wold you like" --> "Where would you like"

Search:
* "where you want snippets to be index" --> "where you want snippets to be indexed"
* "all sub-durectories" --> "all sub-directories"
* "from each of these directories" --> "in each of these directories"
Comments: Oops. That is embarrassing. My excuse is that I was much younger when I wrote those ;) Will fix them in a future release.

When click on Export as Snippet it opens add new website items !!!!!!! I'm using VS 2010 Ultimate on windows 7 64bit. also on selecting File -> New -> File then from window Snippet Designer -> Code Snippet file it hangs & crash the VS.
Comments: Thanks, this is a known issue that I have been unable to find a solution for. It only occurs inside of a website project. The hang though is a newer issue that was reported a month or so ago. I plan to investigate that one further.

I'd like a way to make C# the default language when creating a new snippet. I often forget to alter the selection in the language drop-down box from the default of C++ to C# before I save a snippet.

I installed the latest (I have Vs2010 "Premium", not the "Ultimate" which the installer suggests). None of the support for C++ appears.
Comments: C++ support only works in Visual Studio 2012 since that is the first version of Visual Studio where C++ supports snippets.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create new snippet file as documented.
2. Enter some code.
3. Change "Snippet Type" property to "SurroundsWith".

Expected behaviour:
Snippet type property changes.

Actual behaviour:
Snippet type property doesn't move anywhere and remains "Expansion".
Comments: As soon as I type $selected$ and click on the property grid row with "Snipper Type" once, the type changes to "SurroundsWith". So actually, I think that property should not be settable at all, and the snippet type if only determined by the existence of "$selected$" in the script. Is this actually documented somewhere? Anyway, I'm trying to find out how a SurroundsWith snippet is actually used, because the only way to use snippets that I know is type in the snippet shortcut. This cannot be at the same time while some other text is selected.

Comments: That would be nice to backport the snippet functionality to a previous version of VS but I think it would require a very large amount of work (if it is even possible). I probably won't pick this up but if someone in the community is interested in this work I would love to work with them on it.

If I create a Snippet and define the Shortcut to be "sw", Intellisense will suggest "switch" but won't display my Snippet.
Setting the Shortcut to "sm" instead will work.

I have the same Issue with the Shortcut "aw" -> Intellisense will suggest "await" and wont show my Snippet.
Setting the Shortcut to "am" will work.
Comments: I agree this is a strange behavior and would be a good change to make. There is some complexity in this change since snippet can live in many different folder and changing the language won't always mean you want to change the folder. Here are my thoughts of how to make this better: 1. If you have your snippet in one of the 'My Snippet' directories then automatically move it to the right folder. 2. If the snippet is not in a 'My Snippet' directory show a alert box notifying the user of a possible issue. Does that make sense?

Comments: RESOLVED ok sorry I found the solution: When I saved the Snipped, I set the Snippet Language to C++. After saving, I saw the mistake and changed the language to C# and saved the snippet again. The Snippet Designer did not move the snippet file to the C# folder -> Intellisense could not find it will in C# mode. While this was my mistake, this behaviour is somewhat strange, though
